>Blue Monday – Poisonous frog

Smiling Sally

Small, but mighty.
Its Monday friends which means it’s time for my Blue Monday meme. Here’s my entry, BLUE frog. This is a very unusual and extraordinary frog. The reason why I said it is because this is not just an ordinary frog, this is a poisonous frog. It was actually my first time to see colorful frogs that are so tiny and dangerous. This picture was taken at the SeaWorld anyway. The information about this frog is found below. Happy Blue Monday once again friends.

The more than 200 poison dart frog species feature vivid coloration that serves one purpose: a warning to potential predators. Levels of toxicity vary, but the golden poison dart frog is by far the most toxic with about 20 times more toxins than other poison dart frogs. A single golden poison dart frog holds enough poison to potentially kill ten humans. Some native tribes in Colombia rub arrow tips on the back of live frogs to collect the toxins. Scientists believe the frogs obtain the toxic from the insects they eat, which acquire the toxins from plants they consume. Scientists are also studying the potential medicinal uses of these toxins.
